What is a set in volleyball?

In volleyball, a set is a sequence of plays with the goal of achieving either 25 points (or more), with a minimum two-point advantage over the opponent. A match in volleyball is typically played as the best of five sets. Each set ends when one team reaches the required number of points and wins by at least a two-point margin. If the score is tied at 24-24, the set continues until one team gains a two-point advantage.

During a set, teams alternate serving the ball, with each team allowed three consecutive contacts to return the ball over the net. The main objective during a set is to score points by successfully landing the ball in the opponent's court or forcing the opponent to commit a fault, such as hitting the ball out of bounds or failing to return it.

Sets in volleyball can be fast-paced and intense, with teams strategizing and adjusting their tactics to outplay their opponents. Strong communication, teamwork, and precision are essential to winning sets in volleyball.
